Short Sterling Bomber that went missing in 1943, has just been discovered in Lake Markermeer, near Amsterdam. Hope that the airmen are recovered and brought home https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/british-world-war-two-plane-amsterdam-70-years-a4344516.html
I thought it was the rule that those who fell overseas in both WW1 and WW2 were interred in the nearest appropriate CWG cemetery and no bodies were repatriated even when recovered after the war. The rule was established in WW1 and it is only post WW2 casualties that have been repatriated. It was originally intended as an egalitarian measure - everyone from the private to the general would be treated the same although there seems to have been an exception for field marshals as Lord Roberts was brought back from France. Has this changed?
I was under the same impression, so as far as I am aware hasnt changed. I have just noticed the article is also a few weeks old what a doughnut
