Just watched this video about 2 British officers going to a Chinese military academy. The Chinese want to improve their armed forces , who have not been to war for many years, by inviting those from countries with recent combat experience. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27152535
Given their sabre rattling over the South China Sea - amplified by their quite repulsive manipulating of the loss of MH370 for political ends - this made my blood chill. We shouldn't be encouraging them to improve to American standards. As the report said, their last combat experience was against Vietnam in 1979 - and they lost, until they threw massive numerical superiority against the border after the fact and claimed 'victory'. I was reassured, however, that Chinese officer cadets can't read a map.
Eh, where do American standards come into it? Perhaps it has been forgotten that a few years ago PLA person completed the standard course at RMA Sandhurst.
The Chinese constantly cite - in overt and inferential terms - tbe US as a touchstone (whilst decrying its 'imperialism' and its military spending. I studied the Chinese military professionally for the better part of a decade; modesty forbids but I know that of which I speak.
