    Hi,

The following images are of an Essex Yeomanry troop commander's Sherman OP vehicle in North Africa c. 1943 (sourced from the website www.essex-yeomanry.org.uk and solely for discussion purposes).

Could anybody please tell me what the features are circled in green (the hoop-like structure in front of the commander's cupola) and red . I'm guessing these are respectively a type of aerial and an aerial base of some sort (the base of the substantial aerial arrowed in the third image?) - but exactly what are they? I've not seen these on any other photos of Sherman OP vehicles.

As an aside, was the commander's cupola rotatable? The orientation of the cupola hatches to me looks different in the first and second images.

Also, do you think the main gun here is real or a dummy? I understood the dummy guns were not generally installed in Troop Commanders vehicles - but I'm not sure here...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Steve
