Today the announcement was made that remains of a British soldier were found in Bemmel, Netherlands.

The discovery was made while clearing unexploded ordnance. It is thought the soldier was victim of the fighting in the area September/October 1944. It is known that the British 50th Northumberland Infantry Division was involved in this figting.

According to Battleground Europe series "The Island" (Tim Saunders) there was a strong German attack against 69 Brigade at Bemmel on 1 October 1944. 231 Brigade then attacked in the area where the A15 is now situated on 4/5 October 1944. This was the last battle 50th Division took part in. Would be useful if the article had told us what regimental insignia was found.
