The Australians used British equipment and weapons, which as I stated in a previous post, that were quite good. The Australians also produced the excellent Owen submachine gun. It was a bit heavy (as all WWII SMGs were) but accurate, very reliable even in jungle conditions, and fired at 700 rounds per minute. As for armor the only notable uses of Australian armor in the ETO was in the North African campaign. Australian tanks consisted of the British Crusader, Vickers light tanks, American M3 Stuarts, and American M3 Lee tanks. These were all on par with contemporary German armor. As for the PTO the M3 Stuart was the most common and was more than a match for any of the Japanese tanks like the Chi-Ha.

The Owen gun at 4.17kg was indeed heavier than the British Sten at3.17kg

Does anyone know why the Austen (Australian made Sten was 3.98kg?
