Just recieved notification in the mail that Britain at War magazine is to cease publication with immediate effect, after only 12 issues. Pity really, I enjoyed reading them. Bod Very bad news Every issue was a great read
Where was that posted? We have some people involved in the mag who are members here - perhaps they can confirm this?
Guys don't panic! That quote from Bod was the 22 March and this one a week later ... old thread. Well, to continue the saga. Today I received a letter stating that the publishers have had a change of ownership and as a result Britain at War magazine will continue to be published. The only change seems to be that the publish date will change from the 11th of the month to the last Friday of every month. Good news I think. cheers, Bod
latest copy not out yet & there web site not been up dated from the 4 of Oct I received the lastest copy (November) earlier this week.
Free copy of Britain at War arrived in the post this morning, courtesy of being a subscriber to Bovington's 'Tank Times' newsletter & mailing list. Nice. Anyone else get one? ~A
Not a free one, but I bought my copy pre-the D Day trip. Thought it was an excellent issue with a lot of material in it.
Rather the opposite Adam, I received my subscribed copy of "Britain at War" complete with it's 'free' copy of "Tank Times" stapled inside. Is it always that flimsy? Edit: Just noticed that Her Maj is doing the official opening ceremony of the new Bovington today, 11th June. I'm off there next month, I hope the smell of fresh paint has gone by then.
Yeah, just a couple of pages newsletter, occasionally a little article & sometimes bundled up with other ww2 targeted bumph.
Just got the latest copy and it has articles on Operation Pegasus, SOE people who died in concentration camps and the story of how the men in the Wooden Horse escape got home to Britain, to name but few of the stories this month.
I've always found it a very good read. Its accesible and not too 'geeky', which for me is a good thing - otherwise only us military fans would read it, whereas I can imagine people with a slight interest picking it up for a read. I think they've found a nice niche in the market. In my experience the chaps producing it are military enthusiasts like the rest of us. It had a shaky start but seems to have gone from strength to strength. I did get an article published in the Feb 2009 issue, 'Researching a Red Beret'. Wish they would publish some of the others I have submitted, but I gather they are snowed under with articles at present!
Anyone picked the new copy up yet I see from the website the new issue has an article on War correspondents at Arnhem any feedback mucho appreciated.Regards, Jason
Got my copy this morning and it has great articles already read about the Altmark incident- the last time the Royal Navy boarded a ship with cutlasses! also as I already metioned a nice story on Arnhem and plenty more, this magazine is going from strength to strength. Just to add there is a card from ATB, inside you send it off freepost and they send you back a fiver book token to put towards a ATB book
Latest issue out (No 39(, and nice to see a couple of my Dunkirk wrecks photos in there. It seems to get better with each issue!
Im curious every month I check the website to see whats going to be in the magazine, but the last few months its never up to date on the day the magazine comes out such as it did today on the last Friday of the month,Now I will of course go have a look tommorow in the shop but its nice to be a little aware beforehand............ otherwise why have the months(well last months really) magazine on the site when its not up to date
The current edition of Britain at War magazine has an article by myself on the upcoming BBC1 series Dig 1940 which will be on BBC1 in December. It contains several 'behind the scenes' photos. Britain at War Magazine
