    Hi guys

I started the post so its probably good manners if I post a picture?

This is the Bren AA with 100rd drum on a Lakeman Mount. Any idea what the tank is?

The Bren was still in British Service as the L4A4 LMG in the first Gulf War. Mine was date stamped 1942 (with a line through it crossing it out when it was converted)

It cant have been 1942 dated as the L4A4 was based upon the Mk3 which was first made in 1944 and marked MkIII. It could have been a L4A3 or L4A5 as these were based upon the Mk2 (Inglis (1943 to 1945) and Monotype/Daimler (1941 to 1945) made).

The last L4 was withdrawn from British reserve forces in as late as 2008 I think it was. It was found in a TA armoury so the story goes.

Anybody know what's going on under the guns?

Do you mean the bags for collecting the cartridge casings or whats going on, on the floor with the sand bags??

The bags for the cartridge casings. That was my assumption, but I was hoping somebody would confirm.

    How common were they?

Keep the place neat and tidy...

I think it depends on where the Bren was being used:

On a training ground I guess it keeps the mountains of casings down and easier to 'recycle'

Onboard a ship or sometimes in vehicles were spent casings might hinder movement
