Also looking for a Bren AA tripod setup.

    Thank you,

I hope you have very deep pockets, the tripods are availible and range between £50-£120 dependent upon condition and where you buy them.

100 round drums i would expect to pay over £500, ive been looking and have not even seen one for sale in a number of years so good luck with that.

of course there was that american who bought a woodern case of them still in greased paper!.......

100 round drums for the Bren get pricey "if" you can fond one.

This company currently has them for sale:

Military Antiques, Military Collectibles and Militaria British BREN 100 Rnd Drum Magazine Set: MK1-WW2 IMA-USA.COM

    Lovely stuff, winder and everything.

We've discussed these before (including, if I recall, the usual denials that they existed), but this seems a reasonable time to ask; Do they just clip onto standard Brens, or was some modification required? Looks like there's a bracket of some sort included in the one above.

Liked this part of the above ad:

'Original Item: A special offering for the advanced British WW2 Collector; IMA has found a lost case of these exceptionally scarce 100 drum magazines issued in WW2 for use with the Bren Light Machine Gun. These "Speed Drums" as they were named came in two varieties.

This model had a separate spring winder and is offered complete with the winder, required adapter plate for use with the Bren, and with the Wooden Loading block needed to mount the drum whilst reloading. Very few of these very rare BREN MK1 sets available.'

The price was quite interesting: $994.95! (but out of stock).

As the 30-round magazine was ineffective in the AA role, a 100-round drum was developed, two of which can be seen here in the hands of the Highland Light Infantry of Canada, 3CID during training at Bognor Regis, England, Apr42.

I wish I'd taken the offer of a boxed set of 4 for £1000 a few years back now! Theres a full set for sale on the US Gunbroker site but boy are they expensive.

The IMA offering are original drums but the rest is repro, the winders, bracket etc are all repro.

The mag is a simple fit but difficult on a UK deact. The barrel should be removed and the magazine well cover removed by removing the mag realse catch and ejector assy. Slide drum bracket along lower part of Bren body and place end over mag well cover/barrel lock lever detent. Push spring clip into magwell cover guides, push to align with bracket and push split pin through one side of bracket, over spring clip and into other side of bracket. Refit barrel and refit mag realease catch/ejector. To fit on a UK deact with a fixed barrel, the legs of the bracket need to be bent open a little and then reclosed after fitting, on some UK deacts, the mag catch may need to be seperated from the ejector as that part can be welded into place through the locking shoulder screw hole.

As for mk1 tripods, there is one on ebay for £475 at the moment but you should pay a max of £200. Both versions of the Mk1* (intermediate type for ground role only) go for about £150, the Mk2 (Ground role only) go for about £200 (But are getting rare) and the Mk2* (Para version) could set you back £800 to £1000 as they are v rare (I only know of 3 in existance)
