It's dated 1941. From a 3.7 inch gun? Marked EEC? Lot 669? There is also some black print that is very faded and difficult to read. Any information about this shell whatsoever would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Jamie.
3.7 is the kind of shell the dutch EOD, when found in the field, blows on site as they find it to dangerous to move about, but I presume yours is empty
I think this manual was still current in 1941 (with amendments which are in place). There was a later 1944 publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/51654163/Textbook-of-Ammunition-UK-1936 An example:
That may do, Wills, as I simultaneously found a 1948 UK manual (Inter-service Ammunition & Ammunition Package Markings) agreeing the lower stencil (SMK BX) indicates a smoke box inside. And, of course, the upper stencil (H.E.) usually stands for High Explosive! Neither seems to have ECC - though my best (albeit dubious) bet from this list is Essential Combat Configuration. Steve
