Unfortunately, Adam, I reckon I'm totally tonto!

Railways are my other weakness. I'll soon rival the national collection.

Thought I might get stung paying £20 for it on a whim, but apparently not...

First one posted already, and others mentioned in passing, but thought I'd properly list the whole set:

The Second World War 1939-1945: Army: Fighting Support and Transport Vehicles, and The War Office Organization for Their Provision: Part I - Common Problems, Campagnac & Hayman, The War Office

The Second World War 1939-1945: Army: Fighting Support and Transport Vehicles, and The War Office Organization for Their Provision: Part II - Unarmoured Vehicles, Campagnac & Hayman, The War Office

The Second World War 1939-1945: Army: Fighting Support and Transport Vehicles, and The War Office Organization for Their Provision: Part III - Armoured Vehicles, Green, Carver, Hayman, Duncan...

The snag is that the last one was not just not published, it wasn't even drafted (I assume writing Profiles was more lucrative):

With apologies if any of these have been mentioned already.

    Tanks in Camera 1940 - 1943. David Fletcher. 9780750915687

    British Tanks in N.A 1940 - 1942. Bryan Perrett. 9780850454215

British & American tanks of WWII. Chamberlain & Ellis. 9781845090098

British Armoured Fighting vehicle plans. George Bradford. 9780811734530

Focus on Armour, camouflage & markings; the British in North Africa. Kenneth M Jones. ISBN 0855232809.

    Desert Tracks. William E Platz.

British Military Markings (WWII) Peter Hodges. ISBN 085524296

I have all of the above, and more. I will review upon request.

Now a question. Can anyone recommend a definative book on Commonwealth (or Allied) Armoured Cars of WWII?

I don't know of one. Suprisingly whilst the Chamberlain & Ellis volume on the Germans includes armoured cars, the sister edition on the British does not.

Neglected but lovely little book - real shame no volume ever emerged for the later war.

Can't really recommend a definitive one (there might be something in the Warehouse Publications list. Pat Ware's books can be a little dull but it's the sort of niche he picked up on).
Failing that, it's far from definitive and more of a rough photo survey but George Forty's 'Photo History of Armoured Cars in two World Wars' has proved reasonably comprehensive over the years, little detail though.
Then there's always the HMVD, & Concord might have something too.

Singeager's website is a damned good place to start on Daimler stuff:
Home - Daimler Fighting Vehicles Lots of solid pdfs to be had there.

There was an encyclopedia due out, they promoted it on Amazon a couple of years ago, it looked really good, but something must have gone awry, because the listing was withdrawn, and as far as I know, the book was never published.

Anyone read any good new techy books along the tank/vehicle theme recently?
    Got an urge...

British Military Markings (WWII) Peter Hodges. ISBN 085524296

Then there's the revised and expanded edition:

British Military Markings 1939-1945 by Peter Hodges and Michael D Taylor, Cannon Publications, 1994, ISBN 1899695001

    And, in support:

World War 2 Military Vehicle Markings by Terence Wise, Patrick Stephens Ltd, 1981, ISBN 0850594391

That's just prompted me to get Warpaint 4 and suggests that Dick Taylor's other offering might answer the call for a new techy book:

Into the Vally: The Valentine Tank and Derivatives 1938-1960 by Dick Taylor, Mushroom Model Publications, 2011, ISBN 836142136X

I am a new member here but wish to start my first post with some crass commercial self-promotion.
Over the past 17 years I have published a large number of monographs on Canadian vehicles and artillery under the "Weapons of War' imprint. These are available on-line from Service Publications as well as through select retailers in Canada, the US and the UK (Bookworld Wholesale is my UK distributor).
To date I have published 37 separate titles in the series. Although blatantly Canadian many of these vehicles saw use in the UK or other commonwealth countries. The booklets run 24 pages each, most include a set of 1:35 scale drawings and all information is drawn from original sources at Canadian Archives or Dept of Nat'l Defence. Numbers 38 and 39 are at the printers now. These can all be seen at Service Publications - Weapons of War
In addition I wrote the book on motorcycles in the Canadian Army from 1914 to the present and am working on a three-volume set (200 pages each) on the venerable CMP.
    Cheers,
    Clive

    Well, this is no good.
The urge to buy tank/vehicle books has returned with a bullet, and since I couldn't find inspiration today to fill a gap while waiting for Tanks of TOG to be delivered/printed, thought I might boot this thread up.

Good things I've seen since 2012...

Into the Vally: The Valentine Tank and Derivatives 1938-1960 - Dick Taylor.
Long overdue detailed study of a significant vehicle. Suspect it may be worth grabbing while sub £20 as there's a whiff of one of those potentially very pricey/hard to find secondhand jobbies in its future.

Haynes Chieftain Main Battle Tank Manual: 1966 to Present - (also) Dick Taylor.
Postwar, but very solid stuff. Mr Taylor seems to have served on Chieftain, and has very strong well-written opinions on it.
(has recently been seen in the Works for £6. Might be some still out there. Well worth that.)
    51GkyKJpG8L._SX390_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

    British Battle Tanks v1 WW1 to 1939.
British Battle Tanks v2 British-Made Tanks of WW2
    - David Fletcher.
Strange ones, these. I ordered under the impression they were new work by the blessed Fletcher, but on arrival they're like those old compilations that AFV publications used to do, but made from Fletcher Osprey books with a few more notes & perhaps illustrations.
Don't get me wrong - still good stuff - Fletcher after all - but perhaps a bit of a disappointment for c.£30 the pair when you already have most of the Ospreys they're based on.
    wefwefw.jpg images.jpg

Haynes Great War Tank MKIV Manual - David Fletcher & David Willey
No real opinion yet, not read properly. Fine reviews and looks very good. if any two people are in a position to write something solid on the MkIV it's these two leading lights of Bovington.
    Haynes-H5242-cover_1.jpg

Errr. Mind's gone blank re stuff I've bought. I thought I'd mostly stopped, but, urrm, there's stopped & there's stopped.
Think I may rename the thread to be about any decent tank/AFV books, regardless of period or nation. be nice to have somewhere one-stop to shop vicariously keep up to date from.

One that caught my eye today.
    Anyone read it?
Tanks: 100 years of evolution - Richard Ogorkiewicz
Know the bloke's name from somewhere.
    images.jpg
Blurb implies it's very much about the evolution thing, but other titles have claimed that & haven't really nailed it. A shame as how one thing succeeds & another doesn't is possibly what intrigues me most about AFVs.

Into the Vally is a fantastic book which I highly recommend.

Speaking of out of print and the like, Orwell1984 pointed out to me that "Model Centrum Progres" seems to have gone out of business. Recently they published a couple of beautiful collections of British cruiser tank photos by Peter Brown with short histories attached. Note, these won't give you a lot of technical details, but they will give you a lot of great photos.

Prices for the A13 book are already horrible on Amazon, but they do still show a couple of copies of the A9 and A10 book.
