    Hi,

I wonder if anybody can help. I am looking to visit the bomber command memorial in London with some friends, we are near RAF Halton. To make it more interesting and give a bit of personal interest I want to find a casualty trained at RAF Halton, does anybody have any ideas how I can find such an individual. I know there is a museum at Halton, and that is one possibility, but does anybody have any other ideas, thanks in advance.

    Click on Tribute then RoH

You will find a Roll of Honour for Halton Brats, just browse for the Bomber Command entries

Ross, Thank you so much, just what I was looking for, will hopefully make our visit all the more interesting. Do you have any idea if I will be able to get a service record?

I think if you research Halton Brat casualties you will find many who eventually graduated to aircrew as the prewar RAF worked up its strength in the late 1930s and later lost their lives flying or as groundcrew with the RAF.These casualties will be found spread across the various RAF Commands.

I would start researching those casualties from about the 1929 Entry.Further, trawl through these casualties and from the CWGC records,it should be clearer which units the casualty was serving with on the date of death.Aircrew.. it might be easier to ascertain their operational unit than groundcrew whose associated unit is not always clear.

I would think that there should be some information at Halton regarding the individual Entry losses...a question of approaching Halton.

Welcome to the forum Adyc - enjoy!

Here is a list of seven RAF casualties of WWII from nearby Wendover, two of which - REL Boorman and HJ Staddon - are buried at Halton (St Michael) Churchyard. Another, JEG Muschamp, was the son of Group Captain George Allen Rodolphe Muschamp. If you find that one or more of these men were in Bomber Command then you have a theme of local interest.

I hope this is of interest to you.

    Best,

    Steve.

I would say that Sgt Mitchell is the only Halton Brat in the list shown.

He flew with No 40 Squadron which was equipped with Wellington 1Cs and was lost operating out of Shallufa, a permanent RAF base in the Canal Zone during the British presence in Egypt. No 40 Squadron was in the RAF MEAF and not in Bomber Command.

He is remembered on the Wendover Memorial, being the spouse of a local lady.
