Adam has very kindly allowed me to plug the blog on the forum.. Blindfold and Alone The trials of British Soldiers convicted in Capital Courts Martial during the Great War. During WW1, 346 Servicemen of the British and Commonwealth forces were sentenced to be shot at dawn as a result of a Field General Courts Martial. The files of each case are held at the National Archives in London. The aim of this blog is to simply publish these files in their complete form. It will not seek to retry, prosecute or exonerate the men nor will it attempt to rewrite history. I will leave it to the opinion of each reader to decide if justice was served or not. Please feel free to take a look and critique as you see fit. This is the only forum I've linked to the blog on as it's easily the most fair minded one on the internet. Cheers JB
JB, I thought that significantly more than 346 Servicemen of the British and Commonwealth forces were sentenced to be shot at dawn as a result of a Field General Courts; I thought that the number sentenced to be executed was more than 3000. That said, I applaud your plan to publish the files; it should make interesting reading. Roxy PS The site looks good. I have 2 questions, though: Is there any reason that you only use the middle 1/3 of the page? To my mind that's too much margin - too much scrolling. Secondly, are you publishing the files in any particular order?
Roxy You are quite right. It's a poor typo on my part. It should have read that 346 were sentenced and shot.
