Are there any records of Free French, Polish and other foreign airmen being billeted in London homes during the war? We had both French and Polish airman staying with us in Stanmore. Being close to Bentley Priory may have been the reason, but I wondered if there were any actual records of who these guys were and where they stayed. I believe many of the Polish airmen were mainly housed in the Blackpool area but there were certainly some in London.

The Billeting Officer would just come around and inspect you house, as he did ours all of our family was moved into one room and the other rooms were used for any one one that needed a roof over their head. If you objected your house would be taken over by the state and you would be put out on the streets with out any compensation. I doubt if any records exist of these events, as you were just told what to do and you had to get on with it.
