    Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows what happened on 31st December 1940 in BILLERICAY ?
My father was with the 11th H. L .I . and ended up in St Andrews Hospital for 21 days.

    Cheers,

Hi and welcome to the forum momat, one way would be to ask the local town hall press record office. Sorry if this is not much help but all the best in your research

Hello momat and welcome to the forum.

There is an IWM interview by George Cozens of the 11th HLI in which he recalls they were at Billericay for 6 to 9 months from around June 1940. There was an unfortunate incident where a German fighter shot up a tent in which 4 men were killed from a wireless unit. He doesn't mention a date exactly but it could have been possibly something to do with your father??

If you listen to the start of Reel 4 here

Does it say anything more on your father's records why he was hospitalised?

    Hi Lesley ,

    Thanks .
    I will look at that.
My Father had a burst ear drum from around that time and we were told a bomb/ grenade had blown up near him.
He never spoke much about what went on.
