At the risk of preaching to the Choir, I saw this on Ebay and thought of those on here with a DLI intrest. DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY * PRISONERS OF WAR WWII POW POW'S | eBay UK Thanks for posting, underated publication by Harry Moses and the Late Ian English some original research by our very own Brian (ADM199) and a lot cheaper than what I originally paid! On the subject of DLI books a brand new history of the 2nd DLI by Harry Moses has been accepted for publication and Harry states it should be out in time for Christmas 2011. Thanks Again Jim
Hi can any one recommend any good books to read about Durham light infantry 6th battalion in WW2 please.
The obvious one is Faithful Sixth by Harry Moses, but it's rather scarce. It also covers their WW1 service and earlier. David Rissik's The DLI at War is the WW2 regimental history covering all battalions.
The book “The Faithful Sixth” by Harry Moses is to be reprinted. This decision has been made because of the regular demand for the book which has been sold out for the last few years. It will be reprinted by local publishers “Memoir Club Ltd” who are based in Langley Park. The book will be available at the end of September and will be priced at £14.95. The publishers who have a web site at www.thememoirclub.co.ukwill also be advertising and selling two other DLI books i.e. “The Fighting Bradfords” and “The Gateshead Gurkhas” both priced at £8.00. The publishers are also ready to print a new book by Harry Moses titled “For Your Tomorrow” the story of the 2nd Battalion DLI from 1919 until 1955 (regimental Blog) Best wishes Jim

10 DLI feature in Breaking the Panzers by Kevin Bavistock this focuses in particular on the Rauray Battles !!
Many thanks for the Breaking the Panzers recommendation. Away to see if I can get it ordered up. Cheers
Here are a couple of books on the D.L.I. The History of The Sixteenth Battalion 1940--1946 by Major Laurence E. Stringer (D.L.I.) It is a short history of 80 pages & was printed in "Styria", Graz, Austria ( I'm thinking in 1946?) The other one is on 8th Battalion D.L.I. 1939 - 1945. A History Compiled by Major P. J. Lewis, M.C. & assisted by Major I . R. English, M.C. from official records, and personal accounts by members by of the Battalion 1949. Printed by J. P. BEALLS LTD. Newcastle Upon Tyne & at over 320 pages its rather detailed. Both books are rather fragile & need repairing (its the price you pay for buying old books.) Regards, Stu.
I've just finished this book, for (at least!) the second time. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. The soldier's own (and, it must be said: very truthfull) stories, woven together by Peter Hart, who paints a very clear picture.
