    Hi all,

If I was going to get one book on the Typhoon, what would you recommend?

The Typhoon is an interesting aircraft to read about as its impact has undergone a bit of a revision. Earlier books often talk about it decimating German armour with barrages of armour piercing rockets, particularly around Falaise. More recent and scholarly studies correct the record, show that while not the tank busting champion it was earlier painted as, it was very useful in attacking LOC and disrupting movement and supply.
Two books I have and recommend are the following:

    and a later study

    which includeds the Tempest.

If you're doing any reading on Allied close air support in Europe this book needs to be on your list:

    Thank you "Orwell"!

What do you think of Hugh Halliday's book? Obviously limited to the Canadians.

I thought it was a good read. More of an operational history IIRC but some excellent first person accounts.

Thank you :) None of these were published in paperback... $$$.

Usual from me pal if you want some recommendations on memoirs from the pilots rather than an overall service history. If of interest, I’ll go digging through my bookshelves!

Hi Markyboy, if you could recommend ONE memoir that'd be great!

That’d be this one then. Very detailed. Really highlights how horrendous the loss rates were.
