Having just watched the program about the Queen's coronation I thought I'd look up the 16th Duke of Norfolk who organised it. I read this. Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk - Wikipedia Does anyone know anymore about his wartime service & where he was wounded? I have searched the forum & done a bit of Googling but didn't find anything.
Can find no casualty record for him but did find this: Casualty List No. 1529 (Officers) Dated 19 August 1944 Expeditionary Forces/North West Europe/Wounded Grenadier Guards 267566 Fitzalan-Howard W/Lt The Hon. M 11.8.44 This must be Lord Michael Fitzalan-Howard, presumably a relative. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Michael_Fitzalan-Howard#Family
Just reading about this one as you posted. Miles Fitzalan-Howard, 17th Duke of Norfolk - Wikipedia I wonder if wikipedia are getting the family members mixed .
Looking at Grenadiers history it lists Lieut Hon Martin Fitzalan-Howard as wounded on 11/8/44 at Viessoix with 2GG.
Found a newspaper article stating that Bernard, 16th Duke, served in the 4th Bn. Royal Sussex Regiment. Bernard had no male heirs so on his death in 1975 the title went to his second cousin, Miles. Miles was the elder brother of Lord Michael. Also here: Royal Sussex Regiment.
War diaries for 4th Bn. during April/May 1940 can be seen here. https://theorangelily.jimdo.com/17-the-war-diaries/ There is an entry 17 May 1940 “Major The Duke of Norfolk reported sick and was evacuated to 133 Field Ambulance, RAMC.”
