Does anyone know if this is the Zoo - Tiergarten Tower?

Well it certainly looks like the Tiergarten but there's very little in the way of distinguishing features around to give a definitive answer. Hang on I do recognise that Canal walk, it might well be!

Here's a link to the "Third Reich in Ruins" website, with some interesting photos of the flak towers. You need to scroll down a bit: Berlin

Thanks Gerard - using the refs from that site, I think ( long as the captions are correct); we can say that its definately not Flakturm 3 in Humbolthain Park - as that doesnt appear to have the corner secondary emplacements, which realy just leaves Friedrichshain Park or the 'Zoo' / Tiergarten.

Thanks for the ID, I was hoping someone with local knowledge might be able to place the surroundings, all I can do is compare photo refs and thats not particularly accurate when I have no real dates for many of the pics, so much can and was changed around the areas Im sure.

Thanks for the second opinion Tom, much appreciated.

Your thread has been well and truly examined, Ive earmarked that for some of the close up details and texuring later in the process. Im guessing the (excuse my technical ignorance), emplacements are a prety close fit for the Zoo Bunker although I think they had 4 twin 128mm on the them rather than the single models. Some of the photo refs still show them from a distance but Ill soon be gathering refs for them to model up in detail.

You just have to love the joy on the faces of the young soldiers running across the roof - It shows a human side to war that is so often left unportrayed in films and literature. Again excuse my ignorance but what kind of troops are they and does anyone know exactly what type and uniform the crews are?

Re-assessed overall measurements and adjusted height and corner sections, also changed some edging thickness and the balcony width and upper story dimensions.

Im starting to wonder how many sides have the upper external stairways - and how many have a crane/hoist? At the moment Im thinking the front, left and back have stairs and the right hand side a crane, although Im also thinking the left hand mat have stairs and a hoist?

First pic is the previous post for comparrison -

Neatened and tightened up some measurements - and added in some details.

I dont suupose anyone has any dimensions or information regarding the roof buildings and especially what I think is a hoist/crane on the right hand secondary emplacements (as we look at it).

Im thinking maybe Ive got the opening to the top central bunker facing the wrong direction, working from the photo above, although Ill have to look into this more later, that and how many doors and top stairways the structure has.

They look to be Luftwaffe troops manning those flak guns, certainly from the insignia on the side of the Helmets.

Luftwaffe flak crews backed up by members of the Hitler Youth.
I remember reading that the HJ were not supposed to serve the guns but they felt it was something of an honour to be allowed to do so, they were I think officially not supposed to wear the HJ arm band but did.
The above photo I think was on one of the Hamburg towers, ATB did an article on the Flak towers about 2 years ago.
