Whilst driving to Normandy last year I diverted from the A13 to take in Pegasus Bridge and the British Cemetery at Hermanville (Sword Beach). After crossing the bridge into Benouville I turned right towards the coast. After about a mile I stopped for R&R alongside a small church.

The church itself still bears the scars of battle.

I presume because it's the route they took up from Sword Beach.
