This line from the BBC report deserves highlighting.. The BBC understands that at some point during the attack on the British Military Cemetery a group of older people intervened to stop it. Distinctly not the 'wrong people'. As there are the idiots in every society there are also the thoroughly decent too. Hear, hear! As I said previously, this stems from ignorance. Note also that an Italian war cemetery has been attacked too.

The BBC understands that at some point during the attack on the British Military Cemetery a group of older people intervened to stop it. I belive that too based on the following http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/war-grave-photographs/38380-respect-people-tripoli.html
This is the BBC video, same as the YouTube clip that began this thread, but with sound. BBC News - Fury over attack on British war graves in Benghazi

Don't we have eejits in UK, who swing from the Cenotaph flag, who relieve themselves on war memorials after a drunken night out, who steal bronze plaques and who vandalise cemeteries, all for a protest, out of ignorance, for profit, or because of apparent boredom and/or bigotry. Being a Brit, I for one would not like to be tarred with the same brush as these perpetrators, so I hope all Libyans aren't likewise condemned. I haven't forgotten who was caring for or maintaining these cemeteries in the first place and I would imagine that these caretakers will be just as upset and appalled by the damage as we are.
These people we are talking about fellas are fundamental islamists not teenagers having a prank. They are typical of the people i have deployed to fight over the last 20 years in half a dozen countries believe it or not at the behest of politicians we have voted for. Didn't Chamberlain go to Germany in 38 and come back with a worthless piece of paper claiming peace in our time? Why, because he couldn't see the wood for the trees. Apologists, appeasers and liberals the most dangerous people in our country today.
Libya today - Britain tomorrow That's alright, I don't live in Britain anyway As was said before, it can happen anywhere.

I have read all the comments regarding the desecration of the War cemetery and as ususal there is a cross section of thoughts on the subject. Some time ago someone wrote "Did Japan Deserve The Atomic Bomb" I did not follow up on the many replies to that question but getting back to the recent desecration I have to agree with Donnies opinion on the subject, in fact I would even go further I would drop an atomic bomb on that rabble its about time we woke up to the Islamic threat not only to our Religeous beliefs but to our very way of life and yes Vittese I am a Mail reader but unlike you I am not swayerd by their story I am just sickened by the excuses put out by Politicians and people in general who keep saying this act was by a mindless few, crap, this was carried out by Muslims and a pox on all of them. Whenever I visit a cemetery Military or ortherwise in this Country or abroad I treat it with reverance and the respect it deserves but then again I was brought up that way, whats the Muslim excuse this time rotherfield
threat not only to our Religeous beliefs but to our very way of life and yes Vittese I am a Mail reader but unlike you I am not swayerd by their story If I thought I was being influenced by the Mail, I'd blow my own brains out. After 15 years of selling newspapers retail I found that Mail readers were generally the most bigoted, intolerant and closed-minded of any national newspaper readers. Often the rudest as well. I actually try to gain a balanced view of the news and - although I consider myself a one-nation Conservative - I read the Telegraph, Guardian and Independent regularly, together with the New York Times, Washington Post, Irish Times, Sydney Morning Herald and a number of French and German news sites. I am just sickened by the excuses put out by Politicians and people in general who keep saying this act was by a mindless few, crap, this was carried out by Muslims and a pox on all of them. All that an attitude like that does is inflame situations. You are merely descending to the level of a vanishingly small percentage of extremists. The Muslim reaction to the burning of Korans is comparable to what might happen in Bible Belt America if Muslims burned Bibles on the streets of Chicago. Do we really want the KKK back? There is ignorance on both sides of this. The solution is education, not violence.

Good Evening all, Please do not make light of what these idiots have done and i`m not bothered what religion, creed or colour. No one is blaming the `entire` population and yes we do have idiots throughout this country who get up to all kinds such as those mentioned, and yes lots of people probably dont know about WW2 (I`m one of them!) or when it started but what I hope they do realise is `these` actions are wrong when did you last see a maurauding gang of gunmen in your churchyard...leave the dead in peace! Condem these actions do not dilute the seriousness or excuse them ...oh and feel free to add any amount of little red squares under my photo ...I may be a `Cad` but I`m an Englishmen who knows an unacceptable act when I see it which is more than somepeople here seem to do! You know, I never paid very much attention to rabble. Rabble is rabble, that's why it's called rabble. Did the Lybian government - provisional or better - apologize? Yes? Then all is well for me. In response, the NTC said in a statement on its website: "Some people attacked the graves of non-Muslims in Benghazi, including the graves of some of the nationals of friendly countries, including the states of Britain and Italy." It adds that it "severely denounces such shameful acts and vows to find and prosecute the perpetrators according to Libyan law". Holy crap! Look at what all those bloody Muslims are doing!!
This morning I was dismayed at what I saw on the news. The actions of a few will tarnish that country for a while. Commonwealth war graves attacked - africa - world | Stuff.co.nz
This has been quite a news story here on Sky news today. Our Minister has said that the interim Government has stated that those involved would be arrested as soon as they are indentified.
My fathers Squadron (which fought in Libya) like many others was being moved back and forth to different aerodromes in 1940 - they were sent to Tangmere. It was here that the powers that be decided that as Turkey was an ally the Squadron would have to alter it's badge and would have to replace the scimitar with a sword - so as not to cause offence! Shades of the crusade
