Alex, Thanks for translating the Russian for us.
Anymore photos like the one above?

Using he Russian alphabet I got "Stary Lobry Stadyn".
Completely missed the reference to Stalin, it's like trying to decode a secret message.

I'm searching for such fotos to show what was written on soviet tanks but at this time I'm out of luck :)

I'll explain this paradox. First of all, look at number 1 on attached picture - see that there must be letter "Д"(D) but instead there r "Л"(L). Second mistake; look at number 2 - u see there unexisting letter of russian alphabet - someone merged letters "Л"(L) and "Ь"(letter of soften sign, mostly transcripted like ' and letter its soften after it or "y" and letter after "y") into one letter. So there r written "Стари Лобри СтаЛЬин!" that sounds like abracadabra for any russian reader (but can be transcripted like "Stari Lobri Stal'in" :p). But as I guessed what author of that abracadara tried to write I supposed phrase "Old kind Stalin" or "Старый добрый Сталин" - and was right. See how it must be written and watch a couple of another mistakes - mispelled "Старый" (written "Стари"), mispelled "Добрый" (written "Лобри") and finally mispelled "Сталин" (written "Стальин"). That's why u was not able to decode/transcript a phrase - it is completely wrong :).

PS: Feel free to aske me about russian language :)

During the war was vehicles (and gunboats, aircraft etc.) that were build on donations from soviet people - on such vehicles was written on whos donations it were build.
On this tank written "Советский полярник" (Sovyetskiy polyarnik = Soviet polar explorer) - means that it were build on donations from soviet polar explorers or people who live at north edges of USSR.

Some of my faves from this years show, big thanks to all involved including the big man upstairs who only delivered two very short showers.

    Nice 38t.
Did you meet up with the rest of the Gang from here?
    VP, Bod, CS etc etc

    Afternoon all,

We (CS, VP, Bod and Egston) didn't meet any other folk that we recognised but had a very good time indeed. Lots of lovely chunky bits of metal to gawp at, heroic quantities of White Russian cocktails drunk, and a blazing fire to slouch by in the evenings. Weather not too bad, bit cool with the wind and moderate showers now and then. Personal highlights were the 38t, the Churchill Toad (now enroute to J Littlefield's collection in the US), and the nutters driving the ex-Warsaw Pact kit around the arena - full speed ahead and damn the expense! If anyone is thinking of going next year then I would recommend camping for a couple of days to get the full flavour of the event and the 'craic' in the evenings.

    CS

    :D

ps. I expect VP will have loads of lovely photographs but if anybody wants more of the 38t then I have some detailed shots. Lovely thing.....

I never realised a 38t was that small.

I never realised a 38t was that small.
    Our thoughts exactly!

Hell of a show again eh H? Never really fails to impress. Still feeling a bit fuzzy, I suspect the MRE powdered milkshake based cocktail was the greatest mistake of the weekend, & sincere apologies to anyone who was camped near us...
I've now decided the post war Sov-block armour chaps should have a special arena of their own to rag around all day nearly rolling OT90s, ATLMs, and T72s in, top blokes.

Great shot of the old colander Grant Chad, I love that thing.
Funny how 2 of the same subjects caught our eyes ;).

Some special forces Veterans having a high old time in the arena:

Mr Lamonby with his beautiful and completely unique Panzer (he has others ;)).

    Mr Wheatcroft's 88 & part of a large field piece's limber (??)

I suppose if the Veterans give the show their blessing it must be OK then.
Why is that 88 in green & black camo? Looks more like a British 3.7 like that.

88? They served on in many Countries postwar, I'd have to check but I seem to recall that there may be examples in Norway in those colours.

Nope, I didn't realise anything was planned. Only bunged the pictures up because I thought we were lacking any mention of "Belters" on here.

Shopping at Beltring can still be truly surprising... A U-boat captain's gear was probably the most interesting bit of 'proper' militaria I saw:

    It's that tank again.
Steve Lamonby's unique Panzer 38(t) ausf F. Chassis recovered from Hungary (If i remember right...) where it was used as a logger until wearing out and having it's wheels fitted to lumber carts (!!!?), turret sourced in Norway, all joined together as the most splendid detailed restoration. It appeared to be running very smoothly and made short work of one of the stout marking posts in the arena. he also owns the Saving Private Ryan Marder, which has now got a PaK40 to finally complete it's correct restoration, along with a Panzer IV, and a StuG (I'm afraid I forget which type) in the pipeline.
    Top man.

VP, looks like you had a photographers pass, oh lucky man. I didn't get to see it trundling around, and it was one of the few this year I'd have liked to.

Great photos; was a bit miffed that I couldn't make it this year. Doesn't seem to have been the swamp it was last year?

No the weather was generally good, although that didn't stop some from moaning about the dust.

No photographers pass Chad, but a long lens and a willingness to run sometimes ;).

Another star was this beautiful wrecker, found & restored in Africa:

And a Fox armoured car that looked like it had just got to the 'coat of paint' stage. After several years with only the odd glimpse of any WW2 wheeled British armour there were about half a dozen this year, bodes well for the future:

Ummmm, BMP-1, its was part of my life for two years, still want to drive it again :D and of course to check the BMP-3 ... Anyway, great fotos ;)

BTW, Adam you titled it OT90 but it looks for me like BMP-2, there is no mistake?
