This particular cemetery, founded in 1913-14 and located just off Highway 1 (Elias al Hwari) a stones-throw from the Palais de Justice, contains 400+ graves and a Charnel House with engraved names on 10 stone panels. If it were not for the generous labour provided by kind volunteers in helping to renovate this cemetery, I doubt that my visit would have been justified - indeed possible - given the fantastic results of their efforts!

In addition: my initial plan was to visit and take images of the grave marker belonging to Flying Officer Roy Urquhart-Pullen (My WW2Talk post here: Beirut, Lebanon - Flying Officer Roy Urquhart-Pullen and WH799...A Tribute ) but, by chance, I then came across an excellent Blog written by Christine Lindner: Anglo-American Cemetery Beirut, Lebanon: 2013. In that same Blog, Christine provides a list of 6 men who, in one way or another, served with our armed forces and police and who, on retirement, found their final resting places here. Apparently, one of these men spent some time in Colditz Castle but I cannot determine which one?

Christine provides an additional 5 names of those who served with our military forces between 1840-48, and whose names are inscribed on stone panels affixed to a Charnel House within the cemetery confines (Charnel House - meaning: Charnel house - Wikipedia)

I can provide images of the grave markers of all these men:

IX H 2 Watson, Harold Burges (1893-1950) Retired RAF Officer
IV B 4 Joly, John Leonard (1924-2011) Retired Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm
    X D 3 Knight, John (1893-1958) Former soldier
    V A 10 MacKenzie, James W. F. (1893-1948) Palestine Police Officer
X F 2 Owen, John Rodney (1936-1959) Third Officer of Merchant Marines
VI K 4 Roberts, Frank W. C. (1882-1944) Agricultural expert with Spears Mission

I found an additional headstone - see figure 4 - which may belong to someone who also served: He's listed as Ernest Alfred Phillips but the headstone says EW Phillips. What's interesting are the letter-groups before his name: Looks like ..fl-lt...is that Flt-Lt (maybe another RAF Officer?) - have sent memo to Christine to confirm.

I can provide images of the names of all these men as they appear on stone panels affixed to the Charnel House:

    Slab 4 Dale, Lieutenant John B (d.1848)
    Slab 4 Fursman, Private J (d.1841)
    Slab 4 Gunn, Private D (d.1841)
Slab 5 Hoskin, Private John (d.1841)
    Slab 9 Penny, Lieutenant E B (d.1840)
