1. Commer and Austin with cutomised radiator and 1st Corps arrow . 2. Breakdown gantry and searchlight truck in background. 3. AA gun British or French ? could be a Leyland
The vehicles that saved the BEF ? Two interesting pics of the 12th Lancers Morris CS9 armoured cars in the canal and recovered out of it. The recovered ones have the German salvage crews umbrella mark and no.s ( wonder if this is a crane hook symbol and means recover complete not scrap). One also shows a mystery AOS no. 621 , until you invert it ! Ever efficient 12th Lancers took all the armaments from their CS9 armoured cars back to England and the pics seem to back this up. Just read that their bef commander Herbert Lumsden was killed by a Japanese Kamikazi attack whilst on the bridge of an American warship, unusual. Incidentally whilst looking on net for Guy FBAX pics unearthed many Bef vehicles mainly ebay saves. Craig
A couple of nice pics of Fodens from the G503 site that I don't think I've seen before; a DG4/6 and a DG6/12 I think. The former looks like 2 LofC (Railhead) Coy RASC; the latter may not be BEF. Chris
Pretty sure you're right about number two Foden not being BEF, I don't think that model came out until 1941.
The top photograph did make an appearance back in the days when we were still guessing about these GHQ AoS markings - Post 57 http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/30097-bef-army-troops-vehicle-arm-service-markings-others-6.html I only remembered because I scanned it. These threads have become far too large to memorise (not that I'm complaining, Keep 'em coming !)
A series of pics off German ebay of vehicle parks on the outskirts of Dunkirk , seem to be all taken along the same road ,very murky pics. An Austin tourer in 3 of 4 . Craig
Interesting pic of four Scammel Pioneer RI00 artillery tractors currently on German ebay , sadly can't read the AOS number but may be 14 . Craig
Nice clear view of a Guy FAT , seen a few white painted wings what does it mean ? Some heavy AA guns that appear to be behind the Dunkirk Bastions with AOS 3? and the ubiquitous Austin tourers on the beach. Craig

White painted wings is not a marking as such, it's just to make them more visible to other drivers in the blackout.
I thought that only applied to civilian vehicles Alex. In these Dunkirk pics, both vehicles in first pic have it and the truck in second pic. Still it is painted on French offside so maybe you're right. Craig

Craig I think Alex is right but I have never seen mention of it in any of the files at Kew - neither under markings nor night driving / lights. Its seems to be prevalent on 4th Division vehicles. I wonder when it first came in. Andrew
Was France under blackout before 10 May? If not, as 4 Div didn't move up to Belgium for a few days, perhaps they had time to 'adjust' to the new blackout?
The last pic is interesting. Not only does the MW have a Pol (German Police) registration, but is towing a French M38 field kitchen trailer! Chris
