I'm looking for any information on the Beds & Herts Regiment's involvement with the chindits, I've recently acquired a number of things belonging to a relative who served with Beds & Herts & amongst the things are a couple of chindit badges & a magazine about them. I believe he was an engineer? when in Burma. Unfortunately I don't know whether it was the 43 or 44 campaign, or both.. Or any.. But I'm told by other family members he was a chindit. Any help or pointers towards some information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi redmanmatt, We had a previous enquiry about the involvement of the Beds and Herts as Chindits. They took part in the 1944 campaign as Columns 16 and 61 in the 14th British Infantry Brigade. Here are some links back to the previous discussions: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/26979-burma-campaign-june-1944/ http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/27969-2nd-yorks-lancs-14th-brigade-chindits/?hl=%2Bbeds+%2Band+%2Bherts+%2Bchindits Hopefully these will be of some interest to you. Steve
Many thanks Steve. I've only had chance to briefly look at them so far but will have a good read over the next few days. Interestingly I did read part about a boat evacuation of wounded down river - a story I have been told he once told family members. Whether it was that one or not I've no idea, maybe on further reading I can cross reference the battalion/regiment involved to see. Thanks Again, Matt
Hi Matt, There are some books that might help, although 14th Brigade is not particularly well covered by Chindit literature. Get back when you know more.
