:group2: It's good to see that Tom Canning is on the loose again. What some may not realise is that Tom & I have a long standing relationship (in its original meaning !) due entirely to the fact that we were both helpers on the BBC WW2 Peoples War site. In the course of us both making postings, it soon emerged that a remarkable set of coincidences had marked both our military careers, as demonstrated below. Despite the fact that we both served in different Regiments and never (to the best of our knowledge) actually met during wartime we equally seem to have been in lots of the same places at the same time, as follows. 1. Bury St.Edmunds, Infantry Training Rgt. Oct. 1942 2. Troopship S.S.Franconia en route to North Africa Apr 1943 3. Transit Camp Matifou outside Algiers 4. Caserta, Cassino Feb 1944 5. Rieti, Armoured Corps Training Depot Nov 1944 6. Villach, Austria Aug 1945 7. Barnard Castle, Transit camp Jan 1947 8. York , Demob Centre Mar 1947 The full story can be seen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/48/a7270148.shtml but for those that can't be bothered I attach a picture below
I've just made him purple. Welcome Tom. Just been checking your stories out on BBC People's war website. BBC - WW2 People's War - Autobiog: This is a sad one. BBC - WW2 People's War - Two Great Men
Hi Tom Canning Please to meet another Vet...Someone that got his knees brown! We are getting very thin on the ground. I'll have the tinned bacon from the compo pack! Best wishes to you both....Tom and Ron. Sapper.
Seems odd to say 'welcome' as you've technically been a member so long but it's very good to see you posting Tom C. I've read some interesting stuff from you elsewhere on the web and look forward to more! Cheers, Adam.
A very warm welcome Tom. Ron is absolutely correct - now there are two Churchill wallahs to deal with! Here's one of yours on the prowl. Best wishes to you and yours, Gerry
