This programme will be broadcast on BBC2 on 1st November. It is presented by Michael Palin and tells the story of the last few hours of the Great War.

There is some info on the OU site here:

The End of World War One, a very British Tsunami and Stonehenge as a hospital? – Timewatch returns to BBC TWO with The Open University

And also on Michael Palin's own site:

    http://palinstravels.co.uk/static-51?to ... 9&forum=12

There will be a section added to the Timewatch website soon. When it goes live I will post a link.

    Hi Paul,

I shall make sure taht I'm in for that, cheers.

From what I have read 11,000 troops were killed on the last morning, must of been a last rush for medals?

    Cheers

    Soren

Soren, where did you get 11000 from?
    Geoff's Search Engine gives 631 for 11/11/1918.

Search results for: + 11/11/1918. records found: 631

The last hour of the last day of the last month, (I think that's the title ) I'm pretty certain that he states that the last day exceeded the casualties on D Day.

Geoffs search engine is fantastic, I understand however that it does not exceed a certain number of returns tho

Its OK up to 1000 hits, so no problem with Owen's result (which is UK only, also a few dozen CA, SA, AU, NZ and more IN, can't remember the number I got earlier today)

How about US casualties, what were they like? But can't believe 11000 anyway.

How does the 1st day of the Somme come out?
Similar to Jutland. Stops at 1000 and does not get past B.
Almost as good fun as the Gazette search engine;)

For what it's worth, 01/07/1916 casualties for ALL UK units, by first letter of name. If I increase my limit to 2000, should get these and perhaps all other counts out.

The 11,000 figure is not one released by us. Plus it originally stated 11,000 "deaths" which is incorrect. We know the AEF lost 3-4000 on 11th November. We were unable to find accurate casualties for the French and Germans. Much of this will be revealed in the programme!

Ellison and Parr are opposite each other; Price was brought into the cemetery after the war. Ellison and Price will feature in the programme.
