This weekend, the 8th and 9th of October, the Atlantic Canadian World War II Living History Association is going to be at the Halifax Citadel once again, to commemorate the Battle of the Scheldt. We were there last year to commemorate both the D-Day landings and the Battle of the Scheldt. I shall be posting some pictures here of the event after its over and I return home.
Our event last year was truly amazing. It seems like I get to meet people who lived through the experience every time we go to an event. I too look forward to posting the pictures, I hope you guys will enjoy it. The Citadel loans us some REALLY neat things for our displays, and I love holding the BREN GUN that they have on display! Sometimes I get to wander around with it....Of course, its de-activated...But what a nice piece of equipment she is!!!!!
Hi Rob as you said on a more serious note my granda lost his captain and his best mate on the 1st November on the Scheldt opperation. Regards Michael.
Sad to hear that Michael. 1st Nov - At 5o/c in the morning H hour for "Infatuate 1" the battle for Walcheren. Rob
And, the Dutch, when selling real estate properties guage the value of the sale by whether or not the structure was damaged during the flooding of Walchern Island. I am sure Philip or Pieter was add to this. Cheers from the colony, Randy
In regards of pictures, is there anything or any type of pictures that you folks would want to see? My vote is to see pics of the men who won that battle, the infantryman. So, photos of the vets is always my preference. Thanks for asking.

I'll see what I can do for ya I got to meet a WWII veteran earlier this year at our D-Day Display. He was a member of the North Novies. and it just so happened that one of our members was dressed up as a North Novie, and him and the veteran had their picture taken together.
Just got word back from the guy that schedules our group to set up displays at the Citadel, we have the choice of sleeping in tents, one of the casements at the Citadel, or in a period barracks. I am not to sure what I want to do just yet...But I know I wanna spend the night there!
The big day is almost here. I have my uniform all ready, gonna be polishing my boots up tonight, and staring evilly at my GAITERS......This things drive me bonkers. I dont know how you guys wore these things...I hope I make you guys proud tomorrow!!
Sorry I didn't take a lot of pics today, I will be back at the Fort tomorrow and I will post lots more pictures for you folks Enjoy!
As promised folks......Here are A LOT more pictures that I took at today's event for our Battle of the Scheldt event. Hope you all enjoy the pics.

When you are finished messing about - read about the West Novies at the Gothic Line and beyond in Italy - this is the narrative of my Brigade - carefully compliled by Gerry Chester of the North Irish Horse who took our place in 21st Tank bde when the 145th RAC were disbanded in the December '44 - it's a good read - try this link.... 21st Tank Brigade

I shall definately do that....You shoulda seen my boots before the event started.....They were gleaming...But with all the peddles that the courtyard of the Citadel is made of, they got pretty dingy..But I shall do better next time...I also lost my metal plate on the heel of my boot. Gotta renail that. Hope you liked the pics though Tom
