I was recently on Holiday back in the Uk and on Sunday 27th July I visited Capel Le Ferne, the Battle of Britain Monument. I had last visited it shortly after it was first errected and was well pleased with the additions, especially the Spitfire and Hurricane reproductions and shop. The new Museum, in the shape of a Spitfire Wing is well under way and should be open next spring. It was around 5pm and I had only been there several minutes when I heard the unmistakeable Sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin in the sky. I looked up and saw a Spitfire flying in a large circle high up over the Memorial. The Spitfire was in Close Formation with a private twin engined plane and a single engined light plane was alsoo not too far away. I took some photos on extreme zoom and although they are not very good, seeing the impromtu Spitfire Performance was one of the Highlights of my Holiday. Regards Tom
good day smudger jnr,m,10:11am.#1.re:battle of britain monument capel le ferne.great post.excellent photo's.thanks for posting.regards bernard85.
The flyby was very probably a pleasure flight, and according to a relation I have living nearby quite a common sight. The accompanying aircraft takes photos.
Indeed it is. You fly in the twin engined aircraft and take photo's of a Spitfire or Hurricane for around £1,000. Cheap as chips if you are a millionaire http://goactionstations.co.uk/product/fly-with-a-spitfire-platinum/
Andy, It is coming along well and the main structure is up. The staff in the shop said it was on schedule for opening next Spring. My first visit was a Long time ago, as it was about 6 months or so after the Initial Memorial was opened. I was really surprised at how nice it is now with all the additional work carried out. They had plans and a model of the new Museum inside the shop and it will be very impressive indeed when completed. Regards Tom
Harra, Many thanks for the link and Information. Unfortunately at those Prices, I will have to be Content to keep my feet firmly on the ground and take photographs the best I can! Regards Tom
