    Son of John Muirhead Patterson and Helen Smith Patterson, of Wormit, Fife.

    P/O R.L.Patterson from No 235 Squadron was flying on convoy patrol in a Blenheim IV (N3541) on the 18th of July 1940 and failed to return from the patrol. Two others R.Y.Tucker and L.H.M.Reece also perished in the aeroplane. R.L.Patterson was from Wormit, Fife and he was 26.

    F/O C.D.Peel from No 603 Squadron was flying a Spitfire (K9916) on the 17th of July 1940 when he was reported missing the details of which are not known. He took off from Turnhouse and was not seen again.

    P/O W.A.Ponting of No 264 Squadron and his pilot (J.T.Jones) were killed on the 24th of August 1940 at 12:40hrs off Ramsgate. Their Defiant (L6966) was shot down in combat with a Ju 88 and a Bf 109's of JG 3.

    P/O A.T.Rose-Price joined No 501 Squadron on the morning of the 2nd of September 1940. He was K.I.A. in the same afternoon while on patrol. He was shot down over Dungeness at 16:30hrs in his Hurricane I (L1578).

    Sgt J.H.Round of No 248 Squadron was killed on the 19th of August 1940 he was the pilot of a Blenheim IVf (L9457). He and his crew (W.H.Want and M.P.Digby-Worsley) were on a recce of the Norwegian coast and they failed to return.

    P/O L.A.Sears joined No 145 Squadron in June. On the 1st of July 1940 he shot down a Dornier Do 17. He was shot down in his Hurricane (P2955) by a Bf 109 south of the Isle of Wight on the 8th of August 1940, at 09:05hrs. He was posted M.I.A. aged 19.

The Fairey Albacores from the Fleet Air Arm were on a raid on Calais at 17:30hrs and the Blenheim IV-f (L9396) flown by F/Lt F.W.Flood was shot down by a Bf 109. Sgt B.R.Sharp and the crew all died on the mission.

P/O N.B.Shorrocks and the crew all died on the mission (F/Lt F.W.Flood & B.R.Sharp).

    F/O Lord Shuttleworth joined No 145 Hurricane Squadron in June 1940. Shuttleworth destroyed two enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain. Following a combat over a convoy south of the Isle of Wight Shuttleworth was posted M.I.A. on the 8th of August 1940, aged 27.

    F/O G.M.Simson a New Zealander flew with No 229 Squadron in Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain. G.M.Simson was K.I.A. on the 26th of October 1940, his Hurricane I (W6669) was shot down off the French coast by a Bf 109 after he attacked a He 59 at 11:30hrs.

    P/O D.M.Slatter a gunner from No 141 Squadron was on patrol on the 19th of July 1940 in a Defiant (L7016) piloted by P/O J.R.Gardener when he was shot down by a Bf 109 of JG 51. His pilot baled out near Dover at 12:45hrs and was rescued. Slatter was reported K.I.A.
