Battle Accident!?

Today, I received the service record a RASC soldier who died in October 1944, Italy. His death is listed as 'Battle Accident'. My initial thought was a 'blue on blue' incident? There were only two men, from different units who died on the same day and buried in the same cemetery. However, I would appreciate your thoughts on this terminology.

Could it also include, for example, a hand grenade going off accidentally, or some other explosive? An accident with a firearm? Hit by a lorry etc? Not sure if those would count as battle accidents though. Yours sounds more plausible.

Sorry, more questions than answers from me there!

    Really useful - thanks!

The individual's death was not even recorded in the Unit's War Diary which would seem strange considering all other fatalities were mentioned. I expect we will never know the background to this one incident.
