Red Goblin (must be hiding somewhere near us, Steve), you've solved a problem for me with those links... in Dad's notes on Nashik and a mountain they had to climb as part of their training he could not remember the name and thought it to be "Pantelina" and I could trace nothing with a similar name on the local maps - your link gave me the names of the caves he mentioned (Pandava) and the mountain, properly named Pandavleni - another mystery solved... Ta muchly... Kenny

This is a great thread and while i have no idea if my Dad ever passed through it offers a great insight, the link to It ain't half hot mum brings back many happy memories of childhood.

Pretty much every person who entered India through Bombay went through BBRC, Jason... check dad's file and see if you can spot where he came in and if BBRC is in there somewhere...

The welcome additions and responses to this thread have prompted me to add a short piece about Deolali onto my website 'Voyage and Training' page. So a big thank you to everyone that contributed.

I think most service personnel did, I imagine it to be almost like a small town with men just hanging around until the powers that be found them a posting.

I have just been given the movement orders for 23rd Inf Brigade dated 20th March 1944 and they were departing from Saugor Station I am assuming that this means the were at Deolali, would you have scans of the other pages of the Booklet that you mention Bamboo43 or have they already been added somewhere on here as this would be good to add to my information.

    Thanks

    Hi Richard,

Yes, the booklet is on this thread (above) post number 3 added by Red Goblin, in the form of a website link. The booklet is called Westward Bound and advises personnel about the system of repatriation to the UK.

    Cheers

    Steve
