Hi everyone, I have just started looking around for a decent base colour for Allied and Russian tanks.
Because I dont have a air sprayer I have to use Italeri TS Sprays.
Now I have seen that Russian and Allied tanks are green, well olive drab.
I have found that Italeri have two olive drabs in their TS spray range (TS-5 & TS-28)
Could I paint allied vehicles with one and Russians with another?
I havent even looked for a base colour for French, Italian and Japanese yet.

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

US, British and Soviet tank were all different shades.
What scale are you modelling in ?
Edit just noticed you specified 1:72 scale.
I can't find those numbers you refer to on the Italeri website.

One of the best paint jobs I've seen on a tiny model and there is a video demonstration.

    Tamiya paints, in fact:

    TS-5 OLIVE DRAB

    Great link Wobbler, thanks

I tend to spray can primer and spray can base coat then add any other paint by brush.
I dont like base coating with acrylics as any other brush painting with acrylic simply lifts off the base coat.

I’m no way a serious modeller, but I have three to build and went to that site for tips. I’ve not joined it, but I can read what I need. That’s where I picked up that it’s a good idea to use primer, something I can’t recall ever doing when I last made models as a nipper 50-odd years ago! Then again, I’m sure it was all enamel paints back then, acrylic seems to be the thing now.

The Halfords grey primer seemed to be a favourite choice on there, but they won’t mail it, too dangerous apparently, and I couldn’t be arsed going to the store, so got Tamiya surface primer instead. The model shop happily posted that to me. Didn’t realise I should use a base coat too, though…so much information to take on board :omg:

Poundland does a cheap gray prime for £2 a pop, trouble is none of the stores near me stock it, I have tried four different stores in four different towns and nothing.

Yeah, the Tamiya primer ain’t cheap, especially for just 100ml, the Halfords was much better value, but still not in Poundland’s league. If I do need to get more, which I hope I won’t, I’ll maybe have to be arsed to go out and look! :D
