Can any body assist IMG_8023.jpeg with identifying the piece of gauge from a B17 bomber please?

Looks to me to be part of a compass.

It would help if their was some type of “scale indicator” beside this. I can’t tell if it’s 2” wide or 8” wide. A little more detail may help with the search.

  4. Looks like a damaged directional beacon to me. Sometimes, B17 pilots needed to lock into radio signals to find their way back to base.

  5. The picture is blurred and that fragment is in horrible condition making it virtually unidentifiable. However, upon further review, this could be a PDI (Pilot Deviation Indicator) which was basically a backup system in case the bombardier, do to battle damage, could not control the aircraft during the run in to the IP and on to the briefed target.
