B Sqn 3 RTR 18th July 1944

    Hello can anyone help with any information on the following; B Squadron 3rtr. 18th July 1944. Bourguebus Ridge. Hubert Folie Normandy. Sherman Firefly Tank crew : Troop Sergeant Eric Whittaker.
    Operator loader Harry Palmer and Gunner Titch Everett. Driver Jack Turner kia (my uncle also known as Eric in the family. Trooper 6920682 Albert Turner kia 18th July 1944 buried Ranville War cemetery.

    I have a photo of Jack on the extreme right, can anyone identify the other 2, are they Palmer and Everett ?

    Does anyone know tank id number?
    Does anyone know the tank disposition on 18th July 1944 midday time ?

    Hi Owen I am having trouble uploading image at present, tried on apple and dell, despite having 2 devices we are not having much success on either but will keep trying.

    Hi, from the diaries it looks like they spent the 18th in this area, just SE of Caen. The map pointer indicates (roughly) the ridge from which they were "fired on by approx 3 Tiger and Panther tks (..) in area 063635 – 067628" at 22:00, resulting in 6 Shermans being KOed. They would have been just north of Soliers, I think. No mention of casualties in WD until 22:15.
    Good luck with ID-ing photos, been there, done that (sort of)!

    we are overwhelmed by everyones generosity to us with suggestions and ideas, we thank you all very much for your time and effort.
    Our Son John wants to add to everyone on here, that what you are doing will ensure that all those men like Eric who gave their lives in WW2
    will be remembered and not forgotten by future generations and people are never dead unless forgotten or unknown, thanks to gentlemen like yourselves.
