Michael Sadler is still alive, having celebrated his 100th birthday in February 2020 @ Special Forces Club, London, alas he lost his wife shortly afterwards and now has lost his sight.

Apologies if this has already been posted. I understand that there are many of our troops (and the family's of deceased troops ) who served in France during WW2 are entitled to this award but for whatever reason did not apply. If any R.A.F were involved over France they may also be entitled.

On the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June 2014, the French President announced that the distinction would be awarded to all British veterans who fought for the liberation of France during the Second World War.

Since June 2014, 6,000 medals have been awarded. Each month, many veterans apply to the MOD and their application is then studied by the French authorities. The process takes a few months, but careful attention is given both by the MOD and the French authorities to speed up the process as much as possible.

Paul, It is on here somewhere I believe . Unfortunately it isn`t open to all who served in France, those who died do not get one neither do their families. Families can apply on behalf of a living relative but not after their death.

Important note: that the medal cannot be awarded posthumously and therefore applications for those that may have passed away will not be able to be processed.

The application form is available for living veterans, including personnel who operated in support of the landings during June 1944 and who have not already received this award from the French Government. In the section headed “reasons justifying the proposal”, details should be given of service in France or in support of the Normandy Landings – for instance, those sea borne in the English Channel or air borne over France.
