Award Military Medal S/Sgt. Lee B. Porter, 83rd Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion (37076329)

During the early morning hours of 26th December 1944, near Marcouray, Belgium, Staff Sergeant PORTER, a communications sergeant, was at the head of a marching column when a German sentry challenged the leading elements. Realising that any outburst would seriously endanger the entire column, Staff Sergeant Porter moves to the flank quickly and while the sentry repeating his challenge and endeavouring to identify the column, Staff Sergeant Porter leaped upon the German from the rear and with his bayonet, killed him instantly. By his heroic and gallant actions, Staff Sergeant PORTER enabled the column of 400 men to pass through the dangerous area undetected.
