What approximately thirty Germans penetrated frontline positions during a powerful attack near Gueuzane, Belgium, on 19th December 1944, Sergeant AVALOS, a squad leader, gallantry and fearlessly led his men forward to meet the superior group and forced the enemy to break into small pockets. A short while alter, upon observing a number of Germans enter a house, he proceeded into the building alone and singlehandedly killed three Germans and wounded two others. Sergeant AVALOS displayed marked courage and personal bravery which aide d materially in repulsing the enemy attack and making secure his company's position.
