Pte. William Francis Slater, 563 Corps Troops (GT) Company, Royal Army Service Corps awarded Military Medal

This N.C.O. is a member of No. 2 Jeep Platoon RASC at present operating under the command RASC 4 Div. At approximately 1330 hrs on 12th May 1944 Cpl. SLATER was i/c 5 Jeeps and trailers at G.851192 waiting to try to cross the river GARI with ammunition. The location was heavily mortared and Cpl. SLATER and two drivers were wounded. With complete disregard for his own safety Cpl. SLATER unhitched a trailer, placed the wounded men in the Jeep and still under fire proceeded to dress their wounds. A fourth man was wounded and Cpl. SLATER also attended to him after which sent the Jeep to the rear and went to him after which he sent the Jeep to the rear and went to the A.D.S. where his own wound was dressed. When this was done he returned to his vehicles and re-assumed command of his section.
