Award Military Medal Pfc. Marshall C. Thomas, Company F, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division (34799711)

On 12th January 1945, at Hatten, France, the enemy launched a terrific attack against Company "F". Private First Class Thomas, manning a bazooka, took up a position in a window overlooking the enemy approach. He fired upon a Mark IV Tank, disabling it. Another enemy tank literally blasted him from his room, wounding him and destroying his bazooka. Private First Class Thomas withdrew, received first aid, secured another bazooka with ammunition and returned. As another enemy tank attacked, recklessly firing upon friendly positions, he fired and knocked off one of its tracks. pressure was increased by numerically superior enemy tanks and infantry, forcing Company "F" to withdraw to an alternate position. Manning a machine gun, Private First Class Thomas covered the withdrawal, placing withering fire upon the enemy while Company "F" safely withdrew. Private First Class Thomas was the last to withdraw. His outstanding courage and gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the Allied Forces.
