Award Military Medal Cpl. Hendrik Adrianus Van Helvert, No 1 Independent Company, Royal Netherlands Brigade (1923)

Cpl. Van Helvert was i/c 2" Mortar during the enemy attack on HEDEL on 25th April 1945. Although constantly under heavy mortar and small arms fire and later almost completely surrounded by enemy, he maintained his mortar in action most effectively until he was wounded.

His determination and gallantry was a fine example to the remainder of his platoon and did much to hold what threatened to be a dangerous enemy breakthrough.
