Military Medal (Sicily)

Sgt. Williams has shown great devotion to duty, initiative and courage in the face of the enemy during the landing on SICILY at MARZAMEMI on 10th July and also during the Armoured Brigade and Commando raid SOUTH of MESSINA on 16th August. He reconnoitred gaps in minefields under heavy enemy fire thus enabling troops and tanks to pass safely. In the armoured advance on MESSINA he was in a scot car at the head of the column and successfully led the column through minefields and booby traps and past enemy demotions. Both these acts were performed with complete lack of concern for personal safety in the face of enemy opposition.

Bar to Military Medal (Normandy)

Sgt. Williams commanded an assault platoon on the beach at LE HAMEL on 6th June 1944. Under very heavy small arms and shell fire he showed great bravery and inspiring leadership and made a gap through the minefield to enable the D.D. tanks to leave the beach. He continued mine lifting operations inland under similar conditions. His display of gallantry on the beaches was of the highest order and a brilliant example to his comrades.
