Between 5th and 10th February 1944 the Battalion was in action in the area ORNITO (866034) and CERASOLA (865042). Captain David, R.M.O. of the Battalion, had established the R.A.P. in a small roofless hut on the reverse slope of Mt. ORNITO. This area was under almost continuous shell fire from medium guns for five days and nights and on the afternoon of 10th was particularly heavy, shells dropping within a few yards of the .A.P. Captain David evacuated 180 casualties during this period working in pouring rain and under most difficult and dangerous conditions. His cheerfulness, courage and skill were of the highest order and it was undoubtedly due to this that the morale of the wounded was so remarkably high.
