Tpr. PUGH was captured near ROUEN on 21st May 1940.

He first escaped from LAMSDORF by climbing through a window at night and wriggling through the wire. He was in uniform, had little food, no maps and a home made compass. After travelling six days, with RUSSIA as his objective, he was caught by German police.

While with a working party at LEOBSCHUTZ, PUGH helped two Allied officers to escape by driving them in the Burgomaster’s car from LEOBSCHUTZ to JAGERNDORF. He was able to return the car without being discovered and then escaped himself to a railway yard. Here he boarded a goods train and after a 38 hour journey, arrived at MUHLHAUSEN A few hours after leaving the train he was unfortunately arrested by German police.
