Award Distinguished Service Order Major Robert L. Crouch, Headquarters, 1st Bn, 411th Infantry Regiment (0-452351)

For gallantry in action. During the daylight hours of 30th November 1944, in the vicinity of St. Pierre, France, Major Crouch, although pinned to the ground by hostile mortar and machine gun fire, formulated a mutual plan of attack involving tanks and his battalion for the reduction of an enemy strong-point which had stopped a company of his battalion. The plan formulated, Major Crouch, with magnificent courage and total disregard for his own life, crawled under direct, enemy fire to his attacking company commanders to inform them of the plan of attack. This mission accomplished, Major Crouch, personally led the attack again the enemy, resulting in his battalion reaching its proposed objective. His actions were in accordance with the highest traditions of the military. Entered military service from Decherd, Tennessee.
