Award British Empire Medal Sjt. Hermann Van Omeren, Royal Dutch Army attached Headquarters 6th Airlanding Brigade

For distinguished service and devotion to duty during he period Jan 1945 to 20 May 1945.

Sjt. H. Van Ommeren, Royal Dutch Army, joined 6 Airlanding Brigade as an interpreter during the ARDENNES Battle and performed his duties in BELGIUM and HOLLAND with outstanding zeal and efficiency. When the Brigade moved back to England in February, he volunteered for gliding or parachute duties without success and was attached to the US Forces. When the Brigade landed East of the RHINE on March 245t Sjt. Van Omeren rejoined it entirely by his own efforts and determination and rendered outstandingly meritorious service during the rapid advance through GERMANY. By his vigorous and decisive handling of the large number of prisoners of war taken, even of senior officer prisoners, he obtained a great deal of detailed and accurate information while it was of great practical value to military operations. Besides carrying out all the tasks allotted to him with keenness, drive and despatch, he was forever seeking how he might be of further assistance. His dedication to duty at all times, with a disregard of fatigue or danger, was exemplary.

After the collapse in Northern GERMANY Sjt. Van OMEREN rendered outstanding services in the organisation of the 12,500 civilian refugees who poured into the Brigade are, organising and administering a model camp of 5,000 entirely by himself with the utmost efficiency.

During the time he has been with this Brigade Sjt. Van OMEREN has displayed initiative and leadership of the highest order. He has sought for and most successfully undertaken responsibilities incommensurate with his present rank and has earned the respect and admiration of all those with whom his work has brought him into contact.
