I suspect it is my XP PC that's gone weird as I have started getting this on all websites that require logging on.
I don't get logged in automatically anymore.
Also sometimes Today's Posts all get marked as read although I haven't marked them as such.
I have reset and/or deleted cookie handling and temporary internet files, uninstalled various recently installed cleaning programs (CCleaner, Adaware).
I still have Advanced System Care installed as it the WW2 Talk cookie (amongst others) was in its ignore list so never got cleaned.
Deleting all cookies & starting again hasn't worked.
My Vista laptop, however, at the same time now DOES log me on automatically, which it never used to do.
Not the end of the world but if you can help me work out why its changed it would be appreciated!!

Well, I deleted the .dat system file hidden in the cookie folder, not easy as it was "in use by another program" but that seems to have sorted it.

    Les,

The CCleaner caused the problem. My father in law installed it on my computer to clean up the files etc.

However it does exactly what you said in that you have to re log on to each site that you belong.

After that you should not have any problems.

It would be nice for the programme to forwarn users that this occurs.

    Regards
    Tom

    marcus69x I love WW2 meah!!!

Every time I delete cookies I have the same probs. I just select 'remember password' after I log back into each account and I'm ok after that.

    Les,

I think you are probably right.
I installed CCleaner & Adaware as I had been getting some Avira AntiVirus warnings visiting this & other websites after some heavy duty file downloading. The Warning problem went away but now after a boot-up I have to re-enter all my Usernames & Passwords every time, even though the cookies are being kept.
AdvancedSystemCare (which amongst other tasks, deletes only cookies you don't want the boss to find out about:D) does not appear to be the problem as I have tried with & without it installed: its as if any browser (Firefox, Google Chrome & IE) can't use saved cookies anymore.
Uninstalling CCleaner & Adaware and carrying on has not actually helped, nor has erasing the cookies & .dat file in the cookies folder as I had said I thought it did.
I suspect CCleaner has done something to the registry that enables browsers to reuse cookies you want to keep. Only Firefox has managed to fill in said WW2Talk Username & Password but only that solitary website & I still have to click 'Log On'. (Bummer!)

I use CC Cleaner regularly and have done for a long time. It does cause you to log on again but I have not had the problem of all posts having been marked as read.I use it and similar programs on Windows7 and an XP machine. After use I need to logon to MOST of my forums but not all. Neither does it affect my Google Browser Homepage sign in.

Just been all through that with logging onto WW2 - wouldn't accept my password etc - so Adam jumped in and after a few tries - finally logged in and now can answer back - don't know what he did mind you - think it's some dastardly plot....by Xp pro of course .....

    Cheers

I don't think this one applies to you Tom, I'm guessing some small hardware glitch for your bother - hopefully passed now.

For the Logon/Forums read bother, it'll probably be a cookie problem of some sort, nearly always a tweak to browser/security settings helps it out, but it's not for me to advise on personal security settings.

Also, VB's unread posts handling can be a bit clunky sometimes - (there's always 'Quick Links>Today's posts', which'll list the new stuff from the last day or two.)
