    Hi Folks,

I recently picked up the bruised and battered victory medal awarded to Private 7291 John Phelan of the Irish Guards. Normally I would visit my local library to access Ancestry & FindMyPast to find out additional info but at present I'm at anchorage in Kobe,Japan. I was wondering if a kind forum member could have a look for me? I will order his service records from the Micks when I get home in a few months time but I was just looking for something that might help me pass the time at sea :) Any assistance would very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Conor

    Conor,

I have been going through the Military Records on Ancestry, and haven't found his Service records to date. I shall keep looking.

    Hi Mark
All Guards service records are held at Wellington Barracks, not at Kew. (Yep, I had to pay £30 for a copy of my grandfather's WW1 papers! Still, the odds of getting something are better for Gds than any other reg.)

    Thanks Di,

I was having a look on the off chance, you never know what may turn up.
