    Hi All,

I am in looking for some assistance with the service parchment of a Royal Marine PLY/X 108953 Albert Arthur Booth who was born in 1925 and enlisted in 1942 underage, he was wounded in France on the 26th June 1944.

I wondered if any members could shed some light on his service. Or unit, he was from Fleetwood, Lancashire and only applied for his medals in 1999 he died in 2018.

I assume even if his service records were obtained they wouldn’t disclose much more than his record of service?

Would love to find out which commando unit he served with and if he landed on DDay.

    Thanks All

    Richard

From the documents you posted it shows he was a RM Commando Signaller initially being listed as SS (Special Service) Group. It is likely he was with 4 Special Service Brigade at Normandy which comprised of a number of different units (Brigade HQ, 41, 46, 47, and 48). Signallers could be moved as and where needed within the units of the Brigade and as such would have been shown as part of the HQ of that Special Service Brigade.
The signature against his wounding is that of T/Lieutenant G.R. Jefferson which doesn’t help as he was an assistant paymaster in the Home Base Ledger Office in 1944 according to the Navy Lists Quarterly for October.

Thanks Pete, I will probably look to get his service records but as you mention a signaller moved around.
