I was in the Chennault museum in Monroe LA, and found an artillery shell that I could not identify. I spoke with several Viet Nam and later artillerymen and they had no clue. What I found was an 8 inch shell that was about 4 feet high. It is a rimmed shell that is wider at the base I would guess about 12 -14 inches. The writing was English what little I could read and was white and yellow which makes me think that it was a live shell. Inside there is the standard rod for evenly distributing the flash from the primer to the powder. Does anyone have any ideas? All my research has come up empty. Thanks for the help.

Shell? Or cartridge case? If the latter perhaps naval or coast artillery.

Here is a size comparison and the printing on the cartridge. I had to crop them to get them to up load. I am standing next to it and I am 6' 2" if that helps.

    Thanks for all the help
