Looking for help to locate - if they exist - records of service etc in the ARP. My father was apparently a member as we have a silver lapel or button hole badge with the capital letters ARP with a crown.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Welcome to the forum Bob, good luck with your quest.
I did a quick google search which didn't turn up much at first looking, although I did find a picture of an ARP badge: [IMG]
Could I ask (if you know) what town he served in as a warden as by the looks of the Google search most towns have a ARP record. So it would be best to contact the local council as I have not found any centralised resource.

    Thanks for the welcome Gnomey.

Never thought to do a Google, I'm a bit old fasioned when it comes to the new technology.

He served in Rochdale by the way and that certainly is the badge.

Rap, welcome aboard, and good luck with your quest.

The Imperial War Museum might be able to help.

There is quite a wide range of information about the ARP in general, but as has bene stated, if you want to research an individual, you are reliant on local records kept by local councils (and do not forget that they run most of the local museums), or possibly county records offices.

But, it may not be something they feel justifies inclusion on the internet, so an e-mail to their museum service may start you off.

Many people were involved in the ARP in every locality, but I do not think that any national register was kept and it did not count as military service in any way.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcomes and advice. I have sent an email to the Rochdale library - no response yet. And I'm about to investigate the Imperial War Museum.

    Cheers
